The Application of Barium Sulfate in Modified Plastics

     1 The application characteristics of barium sulfate used in plastics

     Barite powder (also known as heavy barium sulfate), a white or gray powder with the density of 4.3 to 4.6 g/cm3, is obtained after crushing, washing and drying natural ore (barite).

    Heated to 1100℃, barite is reduced to soluble barium sulfide which reacts with sulfuric acid or sodium sulfate to form precipitated barium sulfate (also known as light barium sulfate) with fine particle size, above 92 degrees whiteness.

   Barium sulfate has the characteristics of high specific gravity, good luster, good thermal stability, excellent processing performance and so on.

      The technical standard for industrial precipitated barium sulfate (GB/T 2899 - 2008)

     2 The application of barium sulfate in plastics

    With unique excellent performance, barium sulfate has a wide application and become a new functional material of plastic products. Barium sulfate can improve the corrosion resistance, heat resistance and apperance of plastic products. It can also be used in home appliances shell, machinery parts, auto parts, air conditioner panel, electric kettle shell and other things made of PP, PA, PET or other resins.

     The influence of barium sulfate particle size and dosage on mechanical properties of composites

     Barium sulfate can increase the proportion of plastic products and imrove plastic abrasive resistance, ageing resistance, lighting effects and so on, all of which expand the application of plastic products.
